Warm Weather Means Emerging Insects, Pests, and Disease
The warmer weather creates an opportune environment for insects and plant diseases to thrive. The time between now and June is pivotal as there is a slim window of opportunity for our experts to fend off the bad and keep things healthy and tidy.
It is a prime time to apply fungicides for the control of apple scab, anthracnose mildew, rust and other fungal diseases. Like other aspects of horticulture, timing depends on weather and often requires two to three treatments for good control. Trees and shrubs that will benefit include crab apples, dogwoods, magnolias, lilacs and hawthorns. Also, Emerald Ash Borer treatments are normally conducted during this period of time. Known to just about every Michigander, these infectious beetles prompt either immediate treatment of ash trees or removal.
